My name is Sarah.
This is an online space for me to hang art that I’ve been working on and to hopefully share with you.
My work ranges anywhere between photography, drawing, paint, collage, photoshop…OR a mixture of them all!
Curiouser and curiouser! — inspired and totally experimental.
I feel like I’m making up for lost time. It’s a bit of a long story… but okay–
My first remembrance of art was my mom teaching me how to draw a cube. From then on, I would spend hours drawing in an used 3-ringed binder full of lined paper. The first ‘thing’ I ever wanted to be was a cartoonist.
Growing up, art was one of my favourite things to do. I studied visual arts and music up until the end of high school. You might say I was an art nerd- art club, art show, art, art, art… I sold my first painting at 18. My style was very much inspired from my art teacher. At the time I loved art deco, art nouveau and cubism. My medium of choice was acrylic.
I had 2 options – study fine arts OR study arts education. I was accepted into a unique university program called Arts Education– a program unique to all Canadian universities that teaches students how to teach all of the fine arts ( visual, music, dance, literature and theatre) at the elementary and high school levels. After a year of that program, I suddenly found myself…..A) not wanting to become a teacher…….and B) uninspired to create.
Not sure of which direction to go, I finished university with a degree in English literature.
Several office jobs later…[and growing up]… I now work as a flight attendant. I love my job. On my time off I get to travel the world, meet wonderful people, see my favourite bands in concert and explore my wanderlust. The schedule is fantastic as it gives me at least 14 days off a month not including any of my vacation days. So, I can work full-time while following my passion for art.
I’m ready to get back into it…
Art helps me because I feel like I’m finding my voice again. For so long I have felt like a silent observer. Having said that, I’m still finding that voice. What influenced me back then still influences me today, but I find myself with years of life experience (good to horrible) under my belt and now I’m open to new mediums — particularly the use of graphics programs and the digital form.
It’s an exciting time for me to be getting back into it because, as cliche as this will sound, the sky really is the limit. I feel I could do anything.
Stay tuned for updates as this page is fairly new!
